Instructional Media Center
The Instructional Media Center houses the Audio-Visual collections, equipment, and provides related services to support the learning, teaching and research needs of the university community. It is located on the second floor of the J.D. Boyd Library, contains a Media Service Desk, a Media Room, a Listening/Viewing Station Area, and office space.
Media Service Desk
The following services are available at the Media Service Desk: material or equipment check out/in; Viewing Room reservations and cancellations, patron signing-out/in; questions and feedback receiving. The Media Service Desk may be reached by phone at (601) 877-6359 or visiting during operation hours. A voicemail box is available for our patrons to leave a message.
Reserve service also provided at the Media Service Desk. Faculty may place library's or personal audiovisual collections on reserve, for class or individual use in the Media Center. A "Media Reserve Request Form" needed to fill out at the desk when placing an item on reserve.
The Media Room houses the A-V collections, some equipment, supplies and departmental documents.
Collections in the Media Room include videotapes, audio CDs, DVDs, albums, audiocassettes, kits, filmstrips, and slides. Micro fiches from the ERIC collection are housed in the Microfilm Reading Area on the first floor near the microfiche reading machines.
Faculty and staff may use the A-V- collection both in and out of the Media Center. Five titles may be checked out at a time for one week. The checked out items must be returned directly to the Media Center on or before the due date. One-week renewal request may be made by phone at (601) 877-6359, on or before the due date. The overdue fee is $1.00 per title per day. Damaged or lost items will be charged a fine equal to the replacement cost.
Students may use the A-V collection in the Media Center.
Most of the A-V collection may be searched via the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) wherever Internet access is available via the ASU web page at www.alcorn.edu. A print out list of all A-V materials is also available at the Media Service Desk.
Equipment in the Media Room and the Center includes televisions, DVD, audio CD and album players, boom boxes, headphones, and a portable digital projector. Patrons may use them in the Media Center.
VCRs in the Media Room may be checked out by faculty and staff members for overnight, be returned on the due date to the Media Center. The overdue fee is $10.00 per item per day. For lost, damaged, stolen, or unreturned items, a fine equal to the replacement cost will be charged.
All patrons are required to present a valid Alcorn State University I.D. with an assigned library card number to use the Media Center and its collections/equipment.
Any special request must be approved by the Media Librarian.
The Viewing Room with 48 seats is for classes that need to use the Audio-Visual materials and/or equipment. It is equipped with a teacher station that provided with campus cable program, internet access, VCR, DVD, audio CD players, a digital projector, a computer, a 10' X 8' projection screen.
The update in August 2010 has transformed the Viewing Room into multifunctional, instructional technology enhanced learning facility. Instructor now have the capabilities to video record there lectures including instructional content, such as PowerPoint presentations and E-board notes and make available to students reviewing after class.
Instructor who needs to use the Viewing Room at least three (3) days in advance by phone (601) 877-6359 or in person; is required present with the class in the Viewing Room during the using time.
Listening& Viewing Station
Twenty-four (24) Listening/Viewing Stations are provided for individual use. They are equipped with 13" TV/VCR combos; DVD, audio-CD, album and audiocassette players. The Patron's personal audiovisual materials are also welcome to use in the Media Center.

Q: Who may use Audio-Visual Materials or Equipment?
A: The faculty, staff and students who has a valid ASU ID.
Q: Where can I borrow and return the A-V materials?
A: At the Media Service Desk in the Instructional Media Center, please do not return to any other department or use Book Drop.
Q: When can the materials be borrowed?
A: During Media Center operation hours, up to 30 minutes before closing.
Q: What do I need to borrow materials/equipment?
A: Your ASU I.D. with assigned library card number is your library borrower's card.
Q: How many titles and how long can be borrowed?
A: Faculty and staff member may check out 5 titles at a time for a week; renewal request can be made by phone or in person before or on the due date for another week; student may check out 1 title at a time and use it in the Media Center.
Q: What about the Viewing Room?
A: The Viewing Room is for classes that need to use audiovisual material or equipment. A reservation of using the Viewing Room is needed from the instructor in advance, and could be made by phone (601) 877-6359 or in person. The instructor must be pressent with the students during the time using the Viewing Room, and finish a check out procedure at the Media Service Desk at the end of the class.
Q: Does Media Center have reserves?
Yes. Instructor may fill out the "Media Reserve Request Form", to place audiovisual materials on the reserve for class or student to use. Student may listen or view the reserved materials by using the Listening/Viewing Stations in the Media Center.
Q: How can I use the Listening /Viewing Station?
A: By presenting your valid ASU ID with assigned library card number at the Media Service Desk, to check out material, headphone and be assigned a station using up to 4 hours.
Q: What if an item is returned after the due date or is not returned?
A: The safe return of library materials on or before the due date is the responsibility of the borrower. The rate for overdue materials is $1.00 per item per day after the due date. If the item is not returned until the end of the semester, the patron is charged the maximum overdue fine and the cost of the item. For the information of the equipment, please call (601) 877-6359.
