The Government Documents Department is located on the Main Floor on the Main Floor of the J.D. Boyd Library. The documents are housed in open stacks and available to patrons during all hours that the library is open. Patrons needing assistance after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends should check with the Reference Librarian on duty at the Reference Desk on the Main Floor.
The J.D. Boyd Library has served as a depository in the Second Congressional District since 1970. The Documents Department is responsible for maintaining a representative collection of Federal and State Documents. We try to provide through our depository system the most current information for our users. We take into consideration the offerings of our University curriculum, as well as, the needs of the surrounding communities in selecting items to be added to our collection. Children and youth under the age of fourteen, who need access to government publications, should first contact the documents librarian for assistance by phone or email. Be advised that all children and youth must be accompanied by an adult.
We also utilize the Federal Depository Manual which is a basic guide for our operations. It is published by the U.S. Government Printing Office.
Patrons using the documents collection may follow the procedures below.
- Use the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) searching by the subject, title, etc., for a SuDoc number.
- Use the Monthly Catalog and search by author, title, subject, etc., for a SuDoc number.
- Use any other index (such as PAIS) to obtain a SuDoc number.
Documents not available in the library depository collection can be requested through interlibrary loan if the patron so desires. However, every effort is made to find other documents that may satisfy the immediate needs of our users.
The library staff strives at all times to provide courteous, efficient, and friendly service to all patrons.
Check Out Policy
All documents selected by the J.D. Boyd Library are available and accessible for public use in the library. Paper documents may circulate to patrons with library cards. They are checked out manually from the Documents Department. Microfiche and electronic documents Do Not Circulate without special permission from the Government Documents Librarian.
