The Circulation Department is located adjacent to the entrance to the J.D. Boyd Library. This department is responsible for checking out materials from the circulating collections of the Library, for checking borrowed materials back in, and for re-shelving materials. Course reserve materials, including books and phototcopied articles, are housed at the Circulation Desk.
Students may borrow materials only when they are actively enrolled in school or conducting research through the University as determined by the Registrar. Alcorn State University students, faculty, and staff should obtain an ID (Gold Card) from the Business Office. The Gold Card should be brought to the Library to have a valid barcode affixed.
The card holder is primarily responsible for all materials borrowed with the card. It is the patron's responsibility to notify the staff of lost or stolen gold cards to avoid potential problems and liability. A fee of $1.00 will be charged for a replacement barcode.
Students are allowed to check out a maximum of 25 (twenty-five) books. Faculty and staff are not limited to the number of items they may check out at one time. Patrons must return all items to the Circulation Desk or the library book drop. Items returned after closing time will be checked in the next day the library is open. Items must be physically returned to the library to be renewed. Renewals cannot be completed by phone.
The standard loan period for students is two weeks. Loan periods for faculty and staff extend until the end of the academic semester.
Materials may be renewed unless one of the following conditions apply
- the item has been recalled by the library;
- a hold has been placed on the item:
- the patron has delinquent fines
The late return fine is $.05 per day for general circulating materials. Overdue fines may be paid at the Circulation Desk. Students must pay fines before additional books are checked out.
These materials nay be checked out at the desk to be used in the library for a period of two hours at a time. They may not be taken from the library. A penalty will be imposed on persons removing these books/materials from the library.
It is the goal of the Circulation Department to function efficiently with our daily routines while providing professional, courteous, and friendly services to all of our patrons.
