Online Services for On and Off-Campus Sites/Distance Learning
Items in all collections are searchable via the J.D. Boyd Library’s online catalog, which is connected to the ExLibris Web Voyager-Endeavor Information System through the Internet.
The J.D. Boyd Library subscribes to over 100 databases which supplements the print and electronic collections. They include such databases as:
H.W. Wilson Omnifile Databases add the full text of nearly 1200 periodicals to the library resource file in the field of business, education, general science, humanities, social sciences, and other related fields of study. This database also covers the abstracting and indexing of more than 2450 periodicals. The Wilson full text file extends back to January, 1994.
AGRICOLA consists of over 3,300,000 citations to journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audio-visual materials and technical reports related to all aspects of agriculture. This database offers vital agricultural information from 1970 to present.
FirstSearch electronic information service offers access to over 60 reference databases and is linked to the world’s largest computerized card catalog. WorldCat (OCLC) Online Union Catalog. The WorldCat database contains more than 37 million bibliographic records representing the holding of 25,000 libraries worldwide.
Ebscohost Services Selection Page provides automated access to nearly 900 general interest, business, economic, and other databases. Ebscohost Publishing CpidLogin Page is also offered for off-campus users. This database includes Academic Search Premier, ERIC, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, Business Source Complete, Teacher Reference Center, Medline and Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia. There is also the Serials Directory and other related databases.
Nursearch database (based on the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) accesses 61 journals in the field of nursing and is updated annually.
Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) Interactions and Side Effects provide relevant databases relating to the interaction of various drugs.
NetLibrary eBooks provide access to over 29,805 titles and are digital full-text versions of books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction.
Credo Reference (formerly Xreferplus) provides the user with a complete reference collection from over 65 publishers and 473 titles. Users will also be able to locate full-text articles, images, sound files, data, maps, and more.
Students enrolled in off-campus programs have access to the J.D. Boyd Library resources. The Reference Librarian and other staff members assist on and off-campus students with locating information, resources and instructions on how to use these resources.
Distance education students can easily access the J.D. Boyd Library’s catalog and databases by using an assigned library card barcode. Barcodes are available at off sites locations. Students can receive a library barcode during registration. A J.D. Boyd Library staff member is available to issue barcodes to allow students access to the library resources. In addition, brochures are provided at each off-site location for information purposes. Phone, fax and email reference service is available to off-campus students requesting assistance. Students at the NLLRC and Vicksburg Center have access to the electronic resources available in the J.D. Boyd Library.
