School of AREAS welcomes students from Virgin Islands
The Alcorn State University School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences welcomed a group of students from the US Virgin Islands in a ceremony held in the Ray Johnson Assembly Room this morning. Eleven high school students and two teachers from St. Croix and St. Thomas Islands are here for the Virgin Islands Agriculture Experience Camp sponsored by the US Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture. Dr. Daniel Collins and Mr. Clifton Peters will serve as co-camp directors for the camp being held from June 30, 2013 - July 27, 2013 on the campus of Alcorn State University. The goal of the camp is to influence students to study agriculture and ultimately join the agricultural workforce on the Virgin Islands and abroad. This is the second time a group of students have come to the school . In 2004, a similar sized group came and were exposed to careers in the agricultural sciences. One student decided to stay and eventually received a bachelors degree in Agriculture Economics from Alcorn State University.
