Welcome
Alcorn State University's School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences (AREAS) has graduated generation after generation of leaders for one important reason: We are America's very first black land-grant institution. Alcorn offers a variety of degree programs and courses, state-of-the-art facilities, opportunities for research, and some of the best professors anywhere. But what sets us apart is our genuine atmosphere of warmth, caring, and support.

Students are attracted to Alcorn's programs in AREAS for a number of reasons. Most of all, they want to make a difference in people's lives--whether that means cleaning up the environment, solving world hunger, improving crop productivity, or using the latest in technology to streamline management techniques. At Alcorn, students find positive models of success in the faculty and in one another. The school offers a variety of bachelor's and masters' degree programs in agriculture, industrial technology, and family and consumer sciences. Undergraduates collaborate on faculty research, carry out internships, and complete cooperative education experiences.
The link to the 1890's Historically Black Land Grant Universities website is given below. In this website all 18 historically black land-grant institutions founded between 1866 and 1912 are listed. The main objective of this website is to provide a central hub for all the institutions to post their impacts, audio and video presentations, news and the information for conferences and meetings.
