The Alcorn State
University Department of Fine Arts hosted a performance by Marcia Porter, soprano,
from Florida State University and Lynn Kompass, piano, from the
University of South Carolina at the Little Theater on campus on February 3. The program included compositions of
Franz Joseph Haydn, Franz Shubert, Fanny Hensel, arr. Radames
Gnattali, A. Carlos Gomez, arr. Ernani Braga, and Sergei Rahmaninov.
“These acclaimed
musicians performed at Alcorn State University under our
“Communiversity” program bringing the arts to rural Mississippi. Dr.
Porter and Dr. Kompass will be performing at Carnegie Hall on March
29, 2005 in New York. This is an example of the cultural excellence
that Alcorn State University, as the epi-center for southwest
Mississippi and northeast Louisiana, affords its surrounding
community,” said Dr. Clinton Bristow.
