The Concert
Choir Continues to Perform
The Alcorn State
Concert Choir keeps making local people happy by their triumphal
performances. After coming back from Washington D.C. the Choir gave
several concerts. On February 13, 2005 Christian Hope Baptist Church
in Natchez, MS hosted a “welcome back” concert to honor the choir
members. The concert was facilitated by Mark Johnson, School of
Business’ Instructor of Management and Pastor John Scott, Jr.
“When I heard the
choir singing for the first time I was so moved by their
performance. Especially I remembered Kim Morgan’s “Order My Steps”
and Elliott Johnson’s “Praise Is What I do”. It was a phenomenal
spiritual experience,” said Johnson.
After the concert
Mark Johnson did a Power Point presentation about the choir’s trip
to Washington D.C. He showed pictures of the journey. What was so
special about it is that the choir member saw those pictures for the
first time.
On February 15, 2005
the choir performed for Alcorn State University, here on campus, in
the Student Union Ballroom. The choir performed compositions from
the Inaugural Program and also added some new pieces from “Porgy and
Bess” that they will be performing together with professional
musicians and orchestra at the Natchez Festival of Music on May 6th
and 7th, 2005.
“We are going to
give you just a hint, a little preview of the greatest show of the
21st century. “Summer time”and the last chorus. The rest
you’ll see when you come to the performance in Natchez. With your
Alcorn ID you can get in for just five dollars,” said Dr. David
Blackburn, the Choir Director.
The Inaugural
Program and the concert were finished with the famous When The
Saints Go Marching In”. Spectators were moved by the outstanding
performance. They stand to greet the choir, applauded
enthusiastically, raised their hands in the air and sang along. It
felt like a big family getting together. You could tell that the
choir members were happy to perform and enjoyed what they were doing
so much.
“I don’t think any
group of kids had more fun and shared more love than this group. We
left a lot and brought a lot home from our journey,” said Dr.
Blackburn about their experiences during Inaugural Tour.
