This Week's Top Headline...

The Alcorn State University MBA Program in Natchez, MS got an excellent recruiting and marketing opportunity coming up on May 12, 2005. Mr. Joe Wild, the Director of Student Services, Recruitment, and Retention for the Graduate Business Programs was invited to the Louisiana Technical College, Shelby M. Jackson Campus in Ferriday, Louisiana, as the guest speaker at their graduation on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 6:30p.m. Mr. Wild accepted the invitation. He said he would be honored to speak at the ceremony and to use this great opportunity for promotion and recruitment of perspective students for the University.  


Recruiters from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be visiting the Alcorn State University campus on April 12, 2005.

Alcorn State has long been an excellent source for recruiting Texas State Troopers, and DPS hopes that trend continues. A couple of ASU alums will be on campus to visit with students.

Damien Lightfoot, a 2003 ASU graduate, is a Texas State Trooper stationed in Agleton, Texas. Derrick Culbert, who attended ASU from 2001 to 2003, graduated from DPS Academy in August 2004 and is now a Highway Patrol Trooper stationed in Laredo, Texas.

The most recent DPS recruit school graduated in April and included Sam Quinn, who attended ASU from 1985 to 1990. Quinn, who is from Tylertown, MS, will be stationed in Austin, TX.


Alcorn State University Upward Bound Participants attended and participated in the Mississippi Association Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP) 1st Student Leadership Conference, in Jackson, MS on March 4-6, 2005. The students attending were Charles Donaldson, Jr., Dewayne Patten, Kendrizle Rowan, Latasha Williams, seniors, Letrisa Wilson, sophomore, Ms. Upward Bound, Sheena Davis, junior, all students at Jefferson Co. High. Mr. Upward Bound, Kennedy Walker, junior, student at Wilkinson Co. High, and Tiffany Coleman, senior, at Port Gibson High. While at the conference the students attended various workshops (concurrent sessions), a reception, an award banquet, and the TRiO Day celebration. They also participated in several events of talent and competition. The students were 2nd place winners in Scholar's Bowl competition, Letrisa Wilson and Kenrizle Rowan did a talent and Kennedy Walker gave his TRiO testimony. This was a wonderful experience for our participants.
