Sharing Traditions of Christmas Across the World The Student Engagement Program provided an activity on Saturday, December 10, 2005 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Honors Dorm Cafeteria. The program was entitled, “An International Christmas: Sharing Our Traditions of Christmas”. It was a very informative event. Several of our international students participated, as well as Dr. Valerie Thompson, Director of Student Engagement, Deatrice McDaniel, Advisor, Student Engagement, and Elena Dobrynina, Staff Writer/International Student Recruiter. The Russian students shared a poster depicting many scenes of Christmas in Russia accompanied by a brief synopsis of its historical perspective. Two of our students from Kenya shared how they celebrated Christmas in addition to why some American traditions are not observed in their country. Each of us in attendance asked poignant questions concerning our culture and how it relates to Christmas. We also shared how our individual families celebrate the holiday through food, gifts, music, tree trimming, and so on. One of the highlights of the event was learning how to say “Merry Christmas” in Russian : (Schastli΄vogo Rozgdestva΄) | ||||
