Girl Scouts Learn About Russian Christmas
On December 17, 2005 members of Girl
Scout Troop 862 South West Region had a bronze medal activity at
Natchez High School to learn about celebrating heritage in
another country. Elena Dobrynina from Voronezh, Russia, who
works for the Office of University Relations at Alcorn State,
was invited to share with the scout members and their leaders
the tradition of celebrating Christmas and New Years in Russia,
particularly in her family.
The girls asked questions about the Russian culture, listened to
Christmas songs, and looked at some pictures. Elena will be
helping the girls to present Russia during “Thinking Day”, a
national girl scout activity designed to help Girl Scouts and
Leaders learn about their sisters around the world. This event
will be held at 10:00 a.m., in the Natchez Mall on February 18,
2006. All Girl Scout Troops from the region are welcome to
participate and represent a country with an authentic song,
dance, and a sample of the country’s cuisine.
