Alcorn To Host Ecology Education Workshop

The Department of Biological Sciences at Alcorn State University will host a one-day K-12 Teacher Ecology Education workshop. The workshop is funded by a grant of $15,000 from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2006, from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m.

This will be the first of three workshops to be held for three consecutive years. A certificate of attendance will be given to participants and each of them will receive a stipend. The purpose of the workshop is to present teachers with a comprehensive plan to integrate Environmental Science / Ecology education into their respective existing curriculum and to increase the representation of African Americans in Environmental Science / Ecology careers. It is also aimed at making the teachers more equipped to encourage their students to register at Alcorn State University and major in Environmental Science/ Ecology in the Department of Biological Sciences
