The Department of Biological
Sciences at Alcorn State University will host a one-day K-12
Teacher Ecology Education workshop. The workshop is funded by a
grant of $15,000 from the Mississippi Department of Environmental
Quality (MDEQ) and will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2006,
from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m.
This will be the first of three
workshops to be held for three consecutive years. A certificate of
attendance will be given to participants and each of them will
receive a stipend. The purpose of the workshop is to present
teachers with a comprehensive plan to integrate Environmental
Science / Ecology education into their respective existing
curriculum and to increase the representation of African Americans
in Environmental Science / Ecology careers. It is also aimed at
making the teachers more equipped to encourage their students to
register at Alcorn State University and major in Environmental
Science/ Ecology in the Department of Biological Sciences
The workshop will take place in
Room 318, Department of Biological Sciences, located in the
Math-Science Building at Alcorn State University Main Campus.
