Advertising for Open or Vacant Positions

The following procedure must be followed when posting a vacant position in your department in order to comply with university policy and Mississippi Department of Labor standards.

  1. Prepare a position description for the open or vacant position
  2. Forward a copy of the position description to the Director of Human Resources for posting
  3. Forward a copy pf the position description to the Office of University Relations for posting on the Weekly Bulletin
  4. List the open or vacant position with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission, i.e. “Job Service”, in addition to any other advertisement medium used.
  5. Notify the Office of University Relations when the position is filled in order to take the opening off the Weekly Bulletin.

ASU Advanced Technology Department has an immediate opening for the position of Instructor.  Qualifications: Master's degree or equiv. in Computer Science, Engineering or equiv., and 2 years experience in the job offered or 2 years experience as a Programmer Analyst, Network Administrator, Programmer or equiv. Employer will accept suitable combination of education, training or experience.  Experience required: Wireless Network Technologies, Network Security and Microsoft Technologies including Web Designing (HTML, ASP, ASP.NET, VB Script, Java Script and CSS), Relational Databases (Access, Oracle and MSSQL), Application Development (VB and VB.NET) and Windows Server Administration. ASU Department of Education and Psychology at Alcorn State University has 2 (two) open full-time tenure-track positions in psychology beginning August 2006.  Rank and salary for each position are negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Responsibilities: The successful candidates will participate in all aspects of undergraduate education in psychology including, but not limited to, teaching, advising, research, serving on university committees, public service, and grant writing. Qualifications: The successful candidates should hold a Ph.D. in psychology and be willing to teach in a wide range of undergraduate courses including but not necessarily limited to the following: general psychology, history of psychology, computer applications in psychology, motivation, learning, cognition, industrial/organizational, and personality. Opportunities also exist for the successful candidates to develop courses in his/her special areas of interest. The normal course load is 12 hours per semester. ASU Upward Bound Program has an immediate opening for a part-time position of a Foreign Language Instructor. Qualifications: A bachelor’s Degree is preferred, and  three (3) or more years experience teaching foreign languages. ASU Business Affairs Unit has an immediate opening for the position of Director of Grants and Contracts, who reports directly to the Comptroller/Asst. Vice President for Financial Operations.  The Office of Grants and Contracts is a department of the Business Affairs Unit that maintains, monitors, and reports all grant activities for the university. Responsibilities: Proper administration of the grants and contracts program through the university business office; maintenance of accurate accounting records for all grants and contracts are expended through the university’s financial systems; ensure that all grants/contracts financial reports are prepared accurately and timely; monitor the process of establishing and closing of a grant or contract account in the proper initiation, of all grants awarded to the university, using the general ledger system; ensure that the university is in compliance with all sponsoring agencies or federal regulations in regards to financial activity; preparation of the University’s indirect cost proposals for grants and contracts; ensure that the proper drawdown or invoicing as reimbursement funds owed the University by grants and contracts as well as Title IV funds for grants and contracts financial activity; execute monthly reconciliation, along with the financial aid office, of the Title IV funds; respond to project directors’ concerns and assist all project directors in the financial operations and answer any questions concerning budgets for grants; advise the Assist VP and VP for Business Affairs on current OMB Circulars pertaining to allowable costs and federal audits of grants; serve as liaison to communicate with external sponsored agencies regarding financial activity; ensure that project managers are provided accurate financial records at any given time. ASU Extension Program has an immediate opening for a Horticulture SpecialistResponsibilities: developing, implementing and evaluating educational programs, events and activities through various ASU-EP delivery systems and focusing on production systems in the horticulture program area to address high priority issues of limited resource farmers.  In the sprit of sustainable systems, the successful candidate will be expected to address issues of economic viability, environmental and natural resource conservation and protection. Sustainable and alternative field crops may include, but will not be limited to, organic farming, vegetables, fruits, living mulch and alternative cropping systems.  The Specialist will generate and provide technical cropping information for new and existing markets but will not be directly responsible for marketing initiatives.  The successful applicant will be expected to obtain external funding to support extension programming and demonstration efforts in alternative crops. The ASU School of Business has an immediate opening for the position of  Dean, School of Business. The School of Business offers graduate and undergraduate programs at its Natchez campus and undergraduate programs at its main campus at Lorman. The school currently employs eighteen full-time faculty and four full-time staff. The School is a member of AACSB and the university's strategic plan includes obtaining AACSB accreditation. Employment begins July 1, 2006.
The Dean of the School reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in business field from an AACSB accredited university. The preferred candidate will have previous successful experience as an administrator, an appropriate research record and exposure to AACSB's accreditation process.

The ASU Southwest Mississippi Rural Minority Business Development Center has immediate openings for the following positions:

Director: Southwest Mississippi Rural Minority Business Development Center. Responsibilities: the incumbent will provide leadership for the development of The Southwest Mississippi Rural Minority Business Development Center at Alcorn State University.  The Center Director will assist entrepreneurs in accessing capital and provide training and other technical assistance in identifying business opportunities, expansions and markets.  He/she will provide leadership in business development, research and training initiatives primarily focused on the development/expansion of micro, small and medium size ventures.
Qualifications:  Preference will be given to individuals with a doctorate in business, economics, community/rural development or related fields.  Applicants with a master’s or bachelor’s degree in one of the fields cited and have demonstrated accomplishments in rural/community and economic development will be considered.  The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.

Entrepreneurship Development Specialist. Responsibilities: This position reports directly to the Center Director and will be responsible for identifying and recruiting entrepreneurs to participate in the program.  The incumbent will develop and conduct entrepreneurship training activities and will assist in identifying and acquiring resources to develop and sustain the Center.  The Entrepreneurship Development Specialist will assist in identifying and creating niche markets for potential goods and services produced by micro, small and medium – sized enterprises in the region.
Qualifications: The successful applicant should possess at least a master’s degree in business, agribusiness, economics, rural/community development, entrepreneurship, or a related field.  A bachelor’s degree and successful experience in entrepreneurship development will be considered for the position.

Research Associate. The ASU Mississippi River Research Center has an immediate opening in Watershed Biogeochemistry. The incumbent will conceive, plan, and implement biogeochemistry research programs emphasizing: (1) the role of biogeochemical process in connected ecosystems of landscapes and receiving waters of the southern Independent streams in Mississippi; (2) factors controlling biogeochemical processes in watersheds in southwest Mississippi, especially the Homochitto watershed; and (3) comparative related studies such as nitrogen and phosphorus cycling and transport in watersheds and understanding riparian, fluvial, hyporheic or in-stream processes. The incumbent must have demonstrated abilities to analyze, synthesize, and publish the results of research on biogeochemistry. Interacts with, and provides assistance to, colleagues, and peers in related aspects of the Center’s watershed hydrology/management research. Presents research results at scientific meetings, workshops, and seminars. Trains students, interns, postdoctoral fellows, and/or visiting investigators in the Center’s research program in biogeochemistry. Participates in the Centers’ public education programs.
