WALL STREET JOURNAL ADDS ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY TO ITS ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

NEW YORK (JUNE 26, 2006)—The Wall Street Journal has added Alcorn State University as a member of its Academic Partnership Program.

The Wall Street Journal Academic Partnership Program helps business schools supplement classroom instruction with real-world business knowledge from the Journal.  Business students and faculty at Partner schools receive the daily print Journal and are provided access to the Online Journal at WSJ.com.

“Being a member of The Wall Street Journal Academic Partner Program provides a unique and enriching learning experience for each student majoring in any of our business programs,” said Dr. Steve Wells, professor of accounting and associate dean of Graduate Business Programs.  “The Wall Street Journal serves as a daily catalyst for faculty and student engagement, in and out of the classroom, on real-world business issues and current events.”

“ASU is a diversified University composed of students from cultures world-wide,” said Dr. Clinton Bristow, Jr., President of Alcorn State University. “The Wall Street Journal allows our students and faculty to examine and explore multi-cultural and diverse viewpoints on global issues, and these discussions and interactions among faculty and students become an integral part of a value-added learning experience.”

Students at Alcorn State University will receive The Wall Street Journal to assist in their successful transition into the business world. Alcorn’s business curriculum is designed to expose the student to the broader perspectives needed to effectively manage change in a globally interdependent, diverse world and enhance the student’s interpersonal communication and analytical skills necessary for managers to work effectively in teams and to recognize the ethical implications of their actions.

“The Journal helps students expand their base of knowledge, sharpen critical thinking skills and cultivate a lifelong habit of staying informed,” said Mark Campbell, director of college marketing and sales for The Wall Street Journal.  “Business schools that join the partnership have found it to be a strong support to students in virtually every discipline.”

Alcorn State University business programs place a strong emphasis on the individual student.  In the Alcorn State University MBA Program, each student receives an individualized program of study designed to meet his/her career goals.  With a low student-faculty ratio, the student is able to interact one-on-one with quality faculty members – all of whom hold doctoral degrees from AASCB accredited institutions and most of whom have real world career experiences.
