Advertising for Open or Vacant Positions

The following procedure must be followed when posting a vacant position in your department in order to comply with university policy and Mississippi Department of Labor standards.

  1. Prepare a position description for the open or vacant position
  2. Forward a copy of the position description to the Director of Human Resources for posting
  3. Forward a copy of the position description to the Office of University Relations for posting on the Weekly Bulletin
  4. List the open or vacant position with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission, i.e. “Job Service”, in addition to any other advertisement medium used.
  5. Notify the Office of University Relations when the position is filled in order to take the opening off the Weekly Bulletin.

The Office of the Registrar at Alcorn State University has an immediate opening for the position of Data Entry/ Transcript Clerk.  Qualifications: A Masters Degree and previous experience in professional office setting is preferred. The Data Entry/ Transcript Clerk must have experience in a customer service friendly environment and excellent computer skills consistent with knowledge of an integrated student information system. ASU School of Agriculture, Research Extension and Applied Sciences has an immediate opening for the position of a Research Assistant, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs). This a one year position with no possibility of renewal. Qualifications: minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in agriculture or related field. Responsibilities: successful candidate will assist in the execution of a project funded by the National Integrated Food Safety Initiative (NIFSI) that seeks to identify factors and practices that can lead to on-farm contamination of fruits and vegetables. The successful candidate will assist in gathering information through surveys and on-site collection of samples that will be analyzed to determine the extent of the problem and develop intervention strategies. The individual must have experience in conducting survey-type research and the use of statistical packages such as SAS and SPSS. A significant amount of driving is required, so the individual must have a valid driver’s license. The Systems Research Institute (SRI) Department of Advanced Technologies, School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences has an immediate opening for the position of Software Engineer Research Associate- SRI; Responsibilities:  Software Engineer will work in the Systems Research Institute with an initial assignment relating to application development to support novel image processing techniques currently being used in the institute together with the University Mississippi Medical Center and several industrial partners. Projects have medical, industrial, and other domain relevance. Responsibility will require teamwork with other scientists in building applications creating knowledge bases, automated pattern recognition technology, and other such services to tenants in a high technology incubator located in Southwest Mississippi.   Responsibilities will also include development of  a new and modification of existing Windows and Web-based applications using the necessary tools,  C++, Java, Microsoft.NET framework, Microsoft Visual Studio.NET, Microsoft SQL Server, Linux, Java to and meet distinct and changing business requirements as assigned.  Participate in project planning, requirements’ definition, analysis, design, testing, system documentation and user training.  The successful candidate will have the option of teaching existing courses and develop new relevant courses. Qualifications: Ph.D. or M.S. in Computer Science/Software Engineering or closely related discipline. Experience in specifying, architecture, designing, verifying, implementing, and testing software components and systems in languages, environments and areas such as: C, C++, and Java; XML, Python, and Perl; and Windows and Java environments. Positions will be in support of a high technology incubator tenant that is located in Southwest Mississippi. Qualification:  Successful candidates will have a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in Computer Science, Computer Networking and Information Systems along with Technical Management skills. Preference will be given to individuals who possess an MBA with technical core in Information Systems.  Industry-based certifications are required for the successful candidates before or immediately following the acceptance of an offer. Description:  Successful candidates will play a vital role in the technological direction of tenants in the incubator. They will be required to assist in constructing business plans for clients in a high technology incubator, overseeing network security and directing Internet operations. Successful candidates should be capable of planning, coordinating, directing research and facilitating computer-related activities of the firms. ASU Center for Information Technology Services seeks a motivated, results-oriented and determined Systems Administrator/Database Administrator. Responsibilities include providing IBM AIX 5L setup, administration, configuration and connectivity troubleshooting, especially as applicable to SCT Banner System, support SCT Banner 6x and 7x software, Maintain and support Blackboard Transaction System and peripherals, administer TouchNet Transaction System and interfacing AIX and HP-UX systems for assigning dining and athletic privileges.

Qualifications: Masters in Computer Science or related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience, experience in administering IBM AIX 4.3/5L and HP-UX B 11.0, Oracle 9i or higher databases and application servers, Blackboard transaction system, TouchNet transaction systems (Payment Gateway and Webcheck), demonstrated ability in SQL/PLSQL programming and knowledge of systems and database backups.

ASU  School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences has an immediate opening for the position of  Coordinator of Workforce Education Leadership & Mid-South Partnership Articulating Programs.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Office of the Dean, School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied  Sciences (AREAS) and the Vice President for Academic Affairs to provide academic leadership, management, and overall coordination for the ASU/MSU joint Master’s Degree Program in Workforce Education Leadership (WEL).  

Qualifications:   Doctorate Degree in Education, Technology Education, Workforce Development, or related fields with at least three years experience in program administration on the graduate level.  The successful candidate should also have previous experience with advisement and enrollment management on the graduate level.  Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills, good computer literacy skills, and demonstrate an ability to work with university, continuing education professionals, and community college officials.

Doctorate in Accounting from an AACSB accredited school is required. ABDs within six months of completion may be considered for Assistant. Appropriate experience and record of research are required for Associate. Professional certification is preferred. Salary is in line with similar AACSB accredited programs.


The ASU Department of Education has an immediate opening for an Assistant Professor of Education (tenure track). Two positions to teach undergraduate courses in Elementary Education, advise education majors, and perform other duties as assigned. Ph.D. in Elementary Education or related field, teacher certification, and involvement in scholarly activities are required. Teaching experience at K-8 and at the university level is preferred.
