ASU Office of Substance Abuse
Prevention has an immediate opening for the position of a
Counselor. Successful candidate will provide professional
counseling services that contribute to a successful college
experience for all students academically, personally, socially and
professionally. Provide crisis counseling, intervention and
referral services for students requiring therapeutic counseling
that extends beyond the scope of services provided by the
university. Counselor reports to the Director of the Substance
Abuse Prevention Program. Qualifications: A Master’s degree
in Guidance and Counseling is required. Three (3) years or more
experience in counseling or a related field desired.
Responsibilities: Provide professional counseling services to
all students; Provide intervention and referral services to all
students; Facilitate/conduct workshops, seminars, information
sessions and other prevention activities on and off campus; Assist
with peer educator recruitment and training efforts;

The Systems Research Institute

an immediate opening for the position of Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Expert- SRI;
Responsibilities:
Alcorn State University’s Systems Research Institute seeks an
expert in image processing and pattern recognition lead work in
the Systems Research Institute. Initial assignment relates to
validation of novel image processing techniques currently being
used in the institute together with the University Medical Center
and several industrial partners on several grants having a
bio-statistical and industrial focus. Responsibility will require
teamwork with other scientist in modeling, building of knowledge
bases, automated pattern recognition technology, and services to
tenants in a high technology incubator located in SW Mississippi.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue his/her own
independent research, seek grants and explore collaborations with
scientists at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and
other state and national centers and institutes. The successful
candidate will have the option of teaching undergraduate/graduates

resources to develop and sustain the Center. The Entrepreneurship
Development Specialist will assist in identifying and creating
niche markets for potential goods and services produced by micro,
small and medium – sized enterprises in the region.
Qualifications: The successful applicant should possess at
least a master’s degree in business, agribusiness, economics,
rural/community development, entrepreneurship, or a related
field. A bachelor’s degree and successful experience in
entrepreneurship development will be considered for the position.
Research Associate.
Responsibilities: The incumbent will report directly to the
Center Director and will assist in conducting business development
research on best fit business enterprises for Southwest
Mississippi. The Research Associate will perform literature
reviews and gather empirical data to support the Centers training
curriculum, marketing and other entrepreneurial initiatives.
