Education Unit Set for Upcoming Accreditation Review
The Professional Teacher
Education unit at Alcorn State University will have its
five-year accreditation review by the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) November 4-8,
2006. As a part of the accreditation process, input from
alumni, students, administrators, P-12 school personnel,
university faculty and staff, and community stakeholders is
solicited in order to ascertain personal opinions from those
who are or have been involved in some capacity with the
Professional experiences regarding the unit’s operations.
Natchez
ASU Alumni Chapter Presents Five Scholarships
Ronnie Brooks Sr., Alcorn State University counselor and
recruiter and treasure of the Natchez ASU Alumni Chapter,
recently presented five $500 scholarship checks on behalf of
the chapter. The students, all graduates of Natchez High
School, are currently enrolled at Alcorn. The scholarship
winners are: Courtland Smoot, Leon Dorsey Jr., Jasmine
Fitzgerald, Rhondula Green and Kewonna Blanton.
New
portions of U.S. 61 to open Monday

FYI: DRIVE SAFELY
A 6-mile
stretch of U.S. 61 between Claiborne and Jefferson counties
is scheduled to open with four lanes Monday, according to
the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
About 3.7 miles are in Claiborne County and the remaining
2.3 miles are in Jefferson County.
Beginning about 10 a.m. Monday, traffic will be moved onto
the new four-lane section of U.S. 61 from the Natchez Trace
Parkway south to the intersection of Mississippi 552 and
U.S. 61.
MDOT asks
motorists to drive slowly through the area.
This project is part of
the 1987 Four-Lane Highway Program, which lawmakers approved
to bring improvements to more than 1,811 miles of
Mississippi roadways.
