Alcorn Holds
Summer Programs for Youth
Summer is not a slow time at Alcorn State University: there are
several programs for youth that were already held and yet to be hold
on the institution’s main campus in Lorman. Today we are going to
talk about three programs that the Department of Agriculture is in
charge of.
The first program to open summer season was AgDiscovery Camp. The
program lasted three weeks, from June 3rd till June 22nd
and focused on promoting careers in the fields of Animal Science and
Veterinary Medicine through hands-on experiences and field trips.
The second one was AgAcademy Program. It took place on June 4-15th.
The program was designed for students to receive hands-on experiences
and learn the importance of agriculture in their everyday life. The
Program leader is Dr. Gwendolyn Boykin of the Department of
Agriculture.
The above two programs are annual summer programs. There is a new
summer program that the Department of Animal Science is embarking on.
It is called Amazing Animal Summer Camp. It will take place on July
9-20th. It is designed for students between ages of 10-14.
It will focus on animals, animals and more animals. Students, who have
shown interest in animal sciences, including veterinary medicine, will
benefit the most from this camp. The program leaders are Drs. Gregory
Reed and Cassandra Vaughn.
