Alcorn to Host Technology Assimilation in Science Classroom
Workshop on July 2-30, 2007
Alcorn
State University will host a four-week workshop for middle school
and high school science teachers from the surrounding school
districts from July 2-30, 2007. The workshop entitled “Technology
Assimilation in Science Classroom (TASC)”, is funded by the
Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning through “No Child Left
Behind: Improving Teacher Quality Grant Professional Development
Program”. Eighteen teachers from eight school districts will
participate in the program. Participants will receive a stipend,
daily lunch, Science software and supplies. The main objectives of
this program are:
1.
To provide a
four-week summer workshop, exposing the participants to computer
applications in science.
2.
To involve
teachers in “hands-on” laboratory activities in molecular biology.
3.
To prepare
teachers with methods to reach the varied interests and abilities
of today’s students (Team building, critical thinking and computer
presentations).
4.
To host two
follow-up sessions, one per semester in the following academic
year.
5.
To help participants develop an
awareness for science project and implement at their school.
