                                     Forestry News
                                 Department of Agriculture

Summer is a busy time.  Plants are maturing, and high schoolers are enjoying the time away from the everyday hustle and bustle of school.  Here at Alcorn State University, several Upper Bound participants were getting hands-on experiences in propagation, floriculture, data collection, and Powerpoint designing.  Under the direction of Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, Forestry Professor, students such as Herman Cosey, Anthoneka Davis, and Ajaleen James were fortunate to work in the global science of Forestry.

Forestry generates over $1 billion per year in Mississippi.  Students who choose this major have various opportunities for careers in government sectors as well as private corporations.  There are more jobs for Forestry students than there are students to fill those slots at this time.  Alcorn State University promotes education, service, and scholarship for all that enters the gates.
