Biology Department
Faculty and Students Participate in Research Symposium
On October 6, 2007, two faculty
members of Department of Biology, Drs. J. Ignacio Moreno and
Marta Piva, and several students, Rhonda Price, LaDonna
Arrington, Shanta Hargrave and Jason Brewer presented two
research papers at the Second Annual Mississippi Functional
Genomics Network (MFGN)/ INBRE Research Symposium at
Mississippi University for Women, in Columbus, MS.
The
first paper was an oral presentation entitled: "Phenotypical and
molecular characterization of the YGR150C gene null mutant". The
second paper was a poster presentation entitled: "Studies of phenotype
complementation using YGR150C gene product on its corresponding mutant
that harbors irreversible mitochondrial dysfunction".
Breast Cancer Awareness
Walk
The National Association of
Black Journalists (NABJ) is hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness
Walk Thursday, October 25 beginning at 12:30pm. Starting point
will be at the Campus Park.

Alcorn State University
to Increase Awareness of Agriculture
Alcorn
State University Department of Agriculture is hosting a month
long Jamboree to increase the awareness of Agriculture and to
spread information about internships and scholarships
available for students to begin careers in Agriculture. This
month-long information session will start at 11:00 am and last
until 12 noon and will give the students opportunities to meet
and greet professionals in the government as well as private
sectors of Agriculture. Here at Alcorn State University, the
Department of Agriculture is implementing innovative ways to
boast enrollment and public awareness of the vast array of
career opportunities available to its community statewide and
globally.
Interested persons are welcome to attend and tour the campus.
