WELCOME DR. ROSS
We would like to welcome our seventeenth president of Alcorn State University Dr. George E. Ross. With over twenty years of leadership and management experience in higher education, Dr. Ross has worked actively with student organizations, faculty senates, academic councils, staff organizations, and faculty and staff unions on university academic and administrative governance issues. In his role as President, Dr. Ross will strive to build and maintain a collaborative environment that will push Alcorn State University toward its future, and to provide visionary leadership that models inclusion and accountability.
Dr. Ross has held senior leadership positions in both public and private institutions as the chief operating officer and chief financial officer. While serving in his prior role as Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services at Central Michigan University, he led the development and implementation of the first and only guaranteed tuition plan in the state of Michigan. He provided strategic direction and built lasting partnerships during his previous positions at Clark Atlanta University in Georgia, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Tuskegee University in Alabama, and the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. Dr. Ross also served on several Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation review teams throughout the southeastern United States.
In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Dr. Ross has remained engaged in both traditional and non-traditional student teaching and learning. He has held adjunct and associate professor rank throughout his tenure, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. Dr. Ross has also developed training materials and provided instruction for various professional organizations throughout the United States, including the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO).
A certified public accountant, Dr. Ross held positions in corporate and non-profit finance and management prior to his work in higher education. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Michigan State University, a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Alabama, and completed post-doctoral studies at Harvard University.
Dr. Ross and his wife Elizabeth were both raised in the southern United States, and have two adult daughters, Roshaunda and Joronda.
