Alcorn's
Cooperative Extension Program offers the
knowledge resources of the land-grant
university system to educate Mississippians
for self-improvement, individual action,
and community problem solving.
It is a statewide educational agency
that works closely with your local county
government. The extension program is linked
in a unique partnership with the nationwide
Cooperative Extension System and Mississippi
state government. Alcorn's Cooperative
Extension Program serves 29 of Mississippi's
82 counties with education designed to fit the
needs of local residents.
County extension agents work as
community educators and facilitators to
provide these programs.
Extension specialists and
researchers located at Alcorn's
Cooperative Extension centers provide
expertise and materials to support local
educational programs.
The
extension agenda covers four base program
areas: Agriculture and Natural
Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H
and Youth Development, and Community
Development. On the agenda are four
goals to be achieved through several
educational initiatives.
They are Health and Safety for
Mississippians, Resiliency and Well-Being of
Children, Youth and Families, Natural
Resources, Environmental and Land
Stewardship, Waste Management, Environmental
Public Issues Education, Water Conservation
and Quality, Economic Development/Building,
Community Capacity, Competitiveness and
Sustainability for Mississippi Agriculture,
Valued Added Production, Processing and
Marketing for Mississippi Agriculture,
Preparing Youth for the Future and
Building Leadership.
The extension staff are striving to meet the
needs of the county in all listed areas.
Extension programs serve people of
all ages regardless of socio-economic level,
race, color, sex, religion, disability or
national origin. We appreciate the support
from the community.
