The International Trade and Marketing program was designed in the spring
of 1998 and is now being implemented on a phased basis. This program
has several complementary facets. To date the program employs three
senior researchers and provides student assistantship to three graduate
and two undergraduate students. The program fosters an inter-disciplinary
approach by working with other units to include extension, family and
consumer sciences, agricultural economics, and the various centers of
excellence on the campus.
The following specifically outlines the programmatic areas developed
to assist producers and cooperatives in the state of Mississippi:

Marketing (Domestic and Export Development)- model
building and outreach.

International Trade-model building and outreach.

Enterprise Specific Development (small livestock,
fruits and vegetables).

Database and Information Systems (Agribusiness
and Information Technology).

Risk Management Education-curriculum development
and outreach in four areas of risk (production, legal, marketing,
and finance).

Food Safety and Quality Assurance-development of
material and training workshops.

Agricultural Distance Learning Education-collaborating
with two research sites:
a) Mound Bayou Demonstration Farm
b) Kemper County Incubator Farm

Commodity Trading and Future Market-proposed development
with Agricultural Economics.

Quasi-Factoring and Forward Contracts (financing
marketing activities).

International Business Network and Export Development
-peer exchange, technical training and consultation in sustainable
development in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and Asia.
