Vocational and Technical Education is a vital part of public school education and contributes to the general objectives of education. It contributes to students learning how to think and study and to solve problems efficiently. Students are taught skills in collecting and interpreting data and performing specific technical skills that are needed in the country's diverse labor force.

The School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences (AREAS) offers a program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational and Technical Education, with endorsements in: Agriculture Education, Business Education, Human Sciences Education, and Technology Education.

Graduates in this program are prepared to meet certification requirements to teach in the State of Mississippi in the respective endorsement areas at the secondary level. Students in the endorsement areas are required to complete the common core, which comprises approximately 57 semester hours. The professional education and specialized components comprise approximately 72 semester hours, depending on the endorsement area. The Basic Core and Endorsement areas are outlined as follows:
