WPRL, 91.7 FM, is a CPB-qualified radio station broadcasting to the campus and the surrounding community as a service of Alcorn State University.

It is affiliated with National Public Radio and International Public Radio. It provides educational and entertainment programming for a general audience and provides opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and local community members to learn practical broadcasting skills as volunteers, interns, and part-time staff.

WPRL won two consecutive awards in 1997 and 1998 in public service and sports event announcements in state wide competition sponsored by the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters. WPRL broadcasts gospel, classic and contemporary jazz, MPR's All Things Considered, PRI's The World, local news and public affairs programs, and Soul Expressions: rhythm and blues music.
