Dr. Hawkins' dissertation establishes new
lower bounds for the algebraic ranks of certain Witt classes of quadratic forms. He is actively engaged in research
interested in an important, unsolved problem to find reasonable bounds on the algebraic rank of a given algebraic
form. He is a member of Mathematical Association of America. His Awards: Certificate of Merit-Mayor`s award, New
Orleans, La.1988 and 1990 and State of Louisiana Governor`s Aware for outstanding dedication and service.

Dr. Ravinder Kumar teaches Calculus, Linear
Algebra, Abstract Algebra and related courses. He has published research papers in multiplicative ideal theory
and local rings. He studied under Professor Masayoshi Nagata at Kyoto University, Japan for his post-doctoral work.
Dr. Kumar visited the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay, India as a research fellow and Kyoto University
of Japan two times, once as a Mobmbusho Scholar and then as a Guest Scholar. Currently, he is interested in instructional
technologies and distance learning. He has conducted many teacher enhancement programs both in USA and India. Dr.
Kumar has published articles on graphing calculator technology and made numerous presentations on teaching mathematics
using graphing calculators and computers in International conferences and other Universities. Over the last ten
years he has collaborated in many projects on computer-aided instruction at Clark Atlanta University. Currently,
he is Math Co-PI on NSF project (Alcorn State University) that aims at increasing the participation of minorities
in under graduate research programs and Developer on NSF Project "Welcome" awarded to Math Association
of America (MAA). Dr.Kumar has co-authored eight books (four in India and four in USA). Besides Mombusho award
from Japanese Government, his honors include, gold-medalist both in B.A. and M.A. Dr. Kumar is a life member of
Indian Mathematical, Society, member of Math Association of America, member of National Council of Teachers in
Mathematics, and General Secretary of Forum For Interdisciplinary Mathematics.

Mrs. Manaktala teaches College Algebra,
Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, and Mathematics for Elementary Teachers. After her graduation from University
of Delhi in 1967, she studied advanced non-commutative ring theory in University of Delhi and commutative ring
theory in Kyoto University, Japan. Mrs. Manaktala has co-directed teacher enhancement programs both in India as
well as USA. She has conducted workshops for teachers and students in neighboring counties. Mrs. Manaktala has
contributed in the books produced by NCERT (National Council of Education, Research & Training, India) and
made several presentations on the use of graphing calculators. Some of her articles on use of graphing calculators
in teaching have appeared in the proceedings of ICTCM (International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics)
and a mathematics bulletin published in this department.

Mrs. Rajana came to ASU in the Fall 1995, with twelve years of experience as associate professor and Director of Computer Center. In addition to teaching and monitoring undergraduate students in computer science, she directs a project funded by the U. S. Dept. of Education to introduce Internet as a tool in class room instruction. As part of this project an Internet Computer laboratory will be established. She is also a co-investigator of a MBRS (Minority Biomedical Research Support) project funded by the National Institutes of Health. In MBRS (Dept. of Biology) project, she provides support in the area of bio-computation including data analyses and interpretation. Mrs. Sharada Rajanna is the Founder/President of the KRS Education and Rural Development Foundation, Inc. a 501( c) (3) public charitable organization that provides resources in health and education to underprivileged children and women globally including Mississippi. She is a member of computer related professional organizations.
Areas of Interest: Web based education delivery system, programming languages, data base management,
Computation in biomedical research.
Current Projects:
1. Program Director; U.S. Dept. of Education, Grant NO. P120A990097; Project Period: 0/01/99-09/31/92, Budget: $239,798. A major goal is to establish a web based computer laboratory to facilitate Internet based course offering in the area of computer science.

Co-Principal Investigator: MBRS Research Sub-Project; Grant NO. S06 GM55356, Budget Period: 01/04/97-31/03/00.
A major goal is to determine the effects of Lead and Methyl Mercury on selected secondary messenger systems including
Nitric Oxide in developing Brain.

Dr. Yu teaches data structure, database, system
development, and other programming and computer theory courses. He has knowledge and years of experience in information
retrieval system design and development. His skills include programming, database design, data processing, data
analysis, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications. His research interest include the design, application,
and evaluation of computerized information systems, with a focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). That
includes:
1. using information retrieval and database theories to study how to use the
GIS more efficiently and effectively;
2. using GIS as a tool to study problems in other areas;
3. exploring new GIS applications.
He has published six journal articles, two book chapters, and has made six presentations in national and international academic conferences in the last four years.
Dr. Yu worked as a project manager in GeoSocial Resources, Inc. between 1992 and 1995, doing project management, system design and development. During that time, he has also served as an instructor in the School of Business and guest lecturer in the School of Information Science & Policy. He served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Studies of Florida State University between 1996 and 2000, before he joined the Alcorn family. Dr. Yu is an active member of the American Society of Information Science (ASIS), and the North American Cartographic Information Society. He is serving as the Chair of the Florida Chapter of ASIS and the Chair Elect of the SIG VIS of ASIS.
