Congratulations Graduates!

Alcorn State University will hold its 2015 Commencement on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex at Alcorn State University. The decorum of this occasion dictates that certain formalities are observed. Therefore, we ask that all candidates and guests respect the importance and dignity of this occasion.

Commencement Speaker

Alcorn State University takes great pleasure in welcoming to our campus Dr. Jacqueline Walters as the 2015 Commencement Convocation speaker.

Dr. Jacqueline Walters

Prominent physician Dr. Jacqueline Walters will be giving the commencement speech to more than 700 Alcorn State University graduates May 9th at 8:30 a.m. in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex in Lorman, Miss.

Dr. Walters, who’s also known as Dr. Jackie, earned dual bachelor’s degrees from Alcorn State University and the University of Mississippi. She later earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. In 1997, Dr. Walters completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology from the Medical Center of Central Georgia and Mercer University. After residency, she started in private practice where she also became affiliated with Northside Hospital in Atlanta. As a nationally celebrated board certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Walters’ high profile clientele consists of the Braxton’s, rapper T.I., and singer Usher. She has remained in private practice for 18 years.

Dr. Walters, who is a two-time breast cancer survivor, understands the effects of personal health challenges. As a dedicated teacher, she has assimilated a women’s Wellness Program into her practice to help eradicate the increasing number of heart disease cases amongst women. In 2013, Dr. Walters founded the 50 Shades of Pink Foundation, an organization that pays tribute to women and men diagnosed with breast cancer, nurturing their psychological and physical well-being. The charity’s mission is to treat the inner and outer beauty of breast cancer survivors. It hosts an annual fundraising luncheon in October that allows the foundation to further awareness through gifting, sponsorship of various health initiatives and family workshops.

In 2013, Dr. Walters became one of the stars of Bravo’s hit reality series “Married to Medicine” where the esteemed practitioner earned legions of fans for her distinct style, sense of reason, sincere compassion and unrivaled elegance. Dr. Walters has proved to be an important influence on the show, using the platform to display a positive and successful female image while raising awareness on the health issues that people must face everyday.
