Graduate Requirements FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS


Students seeking the Master's degree must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. All applicants must submit a complete application package for admissions which includes the following:

  • a completed application for admission;
  • the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE); School of Business- GRE or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT); Test scores are considered valid for five years from the testing date. If your scores are more than five years old at the time your application is reviewed, new scores will be required; School of Education CASE and PRAXIS II;
  • two letters of recommendation;
  • an official transcript of all academic work on the collegiate level; Verification that the student's grade point average is at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is needed. International students: Verification must be certified by a professional credential evaluation service of a course-by-course evaluation. Applicants may select any National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member to provide this service. (See NACES web site, www.naces.org, for a list of NACES members.);  A Credential Evaluation must be a course-by-course analysis of the official transcript(s).  This is the only acceptable reporting format.
  • official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores (International students only);
  • a statement of financial support Declaration and Certification of Finances on the financial institution’s letterhead and notarized (International students only);
  • Tuberculosis Chest X-Ray and Tuberculosis Blood Test (International students only); tests must be performed after arrival in the United States
  • an application fee of $10.00 U.S. (check or money order). This fee applies to out-of-state applicants   only.

Students seeking admission to Graduate School to pursue the Specialist in Elementary Education degree must submit the following:

  • a completed application for admission;
  • two letters of recommendation;
  • an official transcript indicating the applicant has completed a Masters in Elementary Education or a related field with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 - 4.00;
  • a letter of approval from the department chairperson and/or dean;
  • a photocopy of the applicant's valid teacher’s license;
  • an application fee of $10.00 U.S. (check or money order). This fee applies to out-of-state applicants only.

Students seeking admission to Graduate School as a non-degree seeking student must submit the following:

  • a completed application for admission;
  • an official transcript of all academic work on the collegiate level;
  • a statement of purpose;
  • an application fee of $10.00 U.S. (check or money order). This fee applies to out-of-state applicants only.

Admission Deadlines

The application for admission to Graduate School and all supporting documents should be on file 30 days prior to the date of enrollment. Applicants submitting completed applications beyond the deadline are not guaranteed admission. The deadlines to submit an application packet are as follows:

  • Fall–July 15th
  • Spring-November 25th
  • Summer I-April 25th
  • Summer II-May 25th
School of Nursing
  • December 15th - Nurse Educator & Post Master's Option
  • March 15th - Family Nurse Practitioner

Types of Admission to Graduate Programs

There are three types of admission to graduate programs at Alcorn State University.
