Graduate Requirements

Students seeking the Master's degree must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. All applicants must submit a complete application package for admissions which includes the following:

  • a completed application for admissions;
  • the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), or PRAXIS I/CASE and PRAXIS II;
  • two letters of recommendation;
  • an official transcript of all academic work on the collegiate level; Verification that the student's grade point average is at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is needed. International students: Verification must be certified by a professional credential evaluation service. Applicants may select any National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member to provide this service. (See NACES web site, www.naces.org, for a list of NACES members.)
  • Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (International students only)
  • A statement of financial support Declaration and Certification of Finances on the financial institution’s letterhead and notarized (International students only) 
  • an application fee of $10.00 usd (check or money order). This fee applies to out-of-state applicants   only.

Students seeking admission to Graduate School to pursue the Specialist in Elementary Education degree must submit the following:

  • a completed application for admissions;
  • two letters of recommendation;
  • an official transcript indicating the applicant has completed a Masters in Elementary Education or a   related field with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 - 4.00;
  • a letter of approval from the department chairperson and/or dean;
  • a photocopy of the applicant's valid teacher’s license;
  • an application fee of $10.00 usd (check or money order). This fee applies to out-of-state applicants   only.

Students seeking admission to Graduate School as a non-degree seeking student must submit the following:

  • a completed application for admissions;
  • two letters of recommendation;
  • an official transcript of all acad emic work on the collegiate level;
  • a statement of purpose;
  • an application fee of $10.00 usd (check or money order). This fee applies to out-of-state applicants   only.

Admission Deadlines

The application for admission to Graduate School and all supporting documents should be on file 30 days prior to the date of enrollment. The deadlines for application are as follows:

  • Fall–July 15th
  • Spring-November 25th
  • Summer I-April 25th
  • Summer II-May 25th

Types of Admission to Graduate Programs

There are three types of admission to graduate programs at Alcorn State University.

  • Unconditional Admission 

  • Conditional Admission 

  • Non-Degree Status
