The Instructional Media Center houses the audio-visual collections, various equipment, and provides related services to support the learning, teaching and research needs of the university community.
Located on the second floor of the J.D. Boyd Library; this area contains a media service desk, forty-eight seat multimedia viewing room, listening/viewing station area, and office space.
Media Service Desk
The following services are available at the Media Service Desk: material or equipment check out/in; Viewing Room reservations, patron signing-out/in. The Media Service Desk may be reached by phone at 601.877.6359 during operation hours.
Reserve services are also provided at the Media Service Desk. Faculty and staff may place library or personal audiovisual collections on reserve for class or individual use. A "Media Reserve Request Form" needs to be filled out before an item can be placed on reserve.
The Media Room houses the AV collections, some equipment, supplies and departmental documents.
Collections in the Media Room include videotapes, audio CDs, DVDs, albums, audiocassettes, kits, filmstrips, and slides. Micro fiches from the ERIC collection are housed in the Microfilm
Reading Area on the first floor near the microfiche reading machines.
Faculty and staff may use the AV collection both in and out of the Media Center. Five titles may be checked out at a time during a one week period. The checked out items must be returned directly to the Media Center on or before the due date. An additional check-out renewal request may be made by phone at (601) 877-6359, on or before the due date. The overdue fee is $1.00 per title per day. Damaged or lost items will be charged a fine equal to the replacement cost.
Students may access the AV collection in the Media Center. Most of the AV collection may be searched via the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). A listing of all AV materials is also available at the Media Service Desk.
Equipment in the Media Room and the Center includes televisions, DVD, audio CD and album players, boom boxes, headphones, and a portable digital projector. Patrons may use them in the Media Center.
VCRs in the Media Room may be checked out by faculty and staff members for overnight, be returned on the due date to the Media Center. The overdue fee is $10.00 per item per day. For lost, damaged, stolen, or unreturned items, a fine equal to the replacement cost will be charged.
All patrons are required to present a valid Alcorn State University I.D. with an assigned library card number to use the Media Center and its collections/equipment.
Any special request must be approved by the Media Librarian.
The Viewing Room contains 48 seats for classes that need to use the Audio-Visual materials and/or equipment. It is equipped with a teacher station that is provided with campus cable, internet access, VCR, DVD, audio CD players, a digital projector, a computer, a 10' X 8' projection screen and SMART Board .
The update in August 2010 has transformed the Viewing Room into a multifunctional, instructional technology enhanced learning facility. Instructors now have the capabilities to video record their lectures, including instructional content, such as PowerPoint presentations and E-board notes.
Instructors who need to use the Viewing Room contact us at least three (3) days in advance by phone at: (601) 877-6359 or in person. Instructors are required to be present with their class in the Viewing Room at all times.
Listening & Viewing Station
Twenty-four (24) Listening/Viewing Stations are provided for individual use. They are equipped with 13" TV/VCR combos; DVD, audio-CD, album and audiocassette players. The Patron's personal audiovisual materials are also welcome to use in the Media Center.
