Students in Action

Vision Statement

The Department of Advanced Technologies is a leader in preparing nationally board Certified Industrial Technologists (CIT) for private and public sector employers; in preparing state-certified teachers of vocational and technical education and in delivering engineering education through pre-professional transfer programs and pre-engineering outreach programs. Applied Research is conducted by faculty and departmental students which impacts the quality of life of the Lower Mississippi Delta Region. Community Service is provided through industrial extension activities, teacher in-service and pre-service programs, youth development programs, and community and economic development initiatives.

This is where the future happens. This is where you apply scientific principles to create and manipulate amazing technology that constantly changes our world. Choose from the following three bachelor’s degree programs, all state-of-the-art technology:

  • Applied Science – Focus your degree on an exciting concentration like bio-medical engineering technology, computer engineering technology, electro-mechanical engineering technology, geospatial engineering technology, geographic information science (GIS) and technology, geographic information science (GIS) and natural resource management, medical radiologic science and technology, medical or industrial technology management, nuclear engineering technology, or radiation technology/health physics.
  • Computer Networking and Information Technology – Our rigorous Computer Networking and Information Technology (CNIT) program prepares you to design, implement, and maintain systems in diverse and complex computing environments, with a focus on real-world experience and certification with external bodies like Microsoft and Cisco.
  • Robotics and Automation Technology – Gain practical experience in our robotics, fluid power, and flexible industrial production labs as you work toward becoming an ATMAE Certified Technology Manager, prepared to design, install, and run computer-integrated manufacturing technologies.

We also offer a pre-engineering program that allows you to complete the first two years of an engineering degree at Alcorn and then transfer to an engineering school to finish your bachelor’s degree. Designed to encourage young and underrepresented students to pursue careers in engineering, this is the only program of its kind in Mississippi.

At the graduate level, the Department of Advanced Technologies can help you advance your career with a master’s degree in workforce education leadership or a master’s of applied science and technology degree. Click to expand the accordion folder below and learn more about each.
