The foreign language area aims to serve the student who wishes to fulfill language requirements of his major field, prepare himself to teach a foreign language at the secondary level, and broaden his cultural background.
Depending on their ability and previous training, students may begin study of a foreign language at elementary, intermediate, or advanced levels. Students may obtain a teaching endorsement in Spanish by completing:
- 18 semester hours, provided that two high school units in the same language have been earned and that the student begins the study of language at the university at the intermediate level; or
- 24 semester hours, provided less than two high school units have been earned. In either case, students seeking teaching endorsement must earn at least 12 hours beyond the intermediate level and must demonstrate oral proficiency.
