For nearly 4 decades, the Annual Alcorn State University Jazz Festival has been a masterpiece rich in tradition and talent. Jazz masters like Clark Terry, Max Roach, Slide Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Freddie Hubbard, Louie Bellson, Donald Byrd, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Turrentine, McCoy Tyner, Arturo Sandoval and Branford Marsalis have graced the stage of this free event throughout its history, establishing the ASU Jazz Festival as a true gem and premier jazz event in the region.

High school and college bands from around the country will perform in the morning and afternoon. A workshop with the featured guest artist will take place in the afternoon at 4:00 pm. A Mississippi Jazz Educator's concert will take place at 7:00 pm and the guest artist will perform at 8:00 pm. Festival activities will occur in the expansive and modern Vicksburg Convention Center, just above the scenic Mississippi River in the heart of picturesque downtown Vicksburg, Mississippi (map).

We look forward to having you at this exciting edition of the Annual ASU JazzFest, the longest-running and most successful all-jazz festival in the region, featuring outstanding performances by student groups, an educational workshop, and performances by some of the most notable jazz greats in the world.


Ramsey Lewis, who is a NEA Jazz Master, has been an iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for over 50 years with an unforgettable sound and outgoing personality. He is a three time Grammy® winner, has recorded over 70 albums, and has joined forces with countless other artists to create new and innovative music.

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Workshop (Ramsey Lewis)

7:00 pm - 7:45 pm: Performance by Mississippi Jazz Educators
8:00 pm - 9:30 pm: Ramsey Lewis and His Electric Band concert
