Living on campus is a very “homey” environment. There are lots of activities to participate in, and you meet so many people and learn so much about yourself.
Alcorn’s not this huge, scary place. It’s a close community full of people who care about you.
The small-community atmosphere really gives you an opportunity to get to know people on a personal basis, and to look inward and grow as an individual.
I really like how beautiful Mississippi is and how many friends I’ve made here. I’ve never shared a room before, and I was nervous about who I was going to live with, but we all get along really well.
The Alcorn coach came to my high school and told me about this small school in Mississippi that has a wonderful family environment and low student-teacher ratio. It was a good fit for me because I like personalized learning and hands-on projects.
Greek life at Alcorn is all about helping each other and helping the community. It’s a bond between us that can’t be broken.
My first day on campus, I went from not knowing anybody to having people just coming up and asking me, “Hey, are you new?” and taking an interest in my well-being. There’s such a feeling of fellowship.
I didn’t want to have anything to do with chemistry and physics. But Alcorn has professors I can relate to and who broke things down into pieces I could really understand. Now my favorite subjects are chemistry, physics, and math.
It was so different when I got here from Brazil, but now people here are like my family. Everyone became my friend and made me feel as if I was in my home here.
My mother wanted me to get the experience of an HBCU. I came out here for a summer session and fell in love with the people, and I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.
Alcorn is the right choice if you want to be challenged in an environment that is nurturing. If you want to be more than a number, if you want a place where people know you by name, come to Alcorn.
This is where your journey begins. This is where you take your first step toward becoming an Alcornite — an individual with both the knowledge and the character to achieve your dreams…for your career, for your family, for your community. Check out our opportunities to visit campus and discover firsthand why current students are proud to have chosen Alcorn and why alumni remain forever connected to their alma mater.
