Meet the I.M.S.O. Members:

IMSO Advisor

Elena Dobrynina (Russia)

Elena is 2004 Alcorn graduate. She's been working for the Office of University Relations and advising the IMSO for 2 years. Those who are interested in becoming IMSO members please write elenad@alcorn.edu , call 601-877-34 or come to the University Relations Office, suite 511, 5th floor, Walter Washington Administration and Classroom Building.

IMSO President

Njuguna Ngugi (Kenya)

My name is Njuguna Ngugi and I am from Nairobi, Kenya. I am a junior Agricultural economics major here at Alcorn and I am also a member of the Golf team. I am a member of the Alcorn state president's men's club as well as a senator for the Agricultural Economics Club.
I have been involved with the I.M.S.O for about three years now and it has been an enriching experience. I have had an opportunity to interact with students from different cultures, regions and races which has brought me to believe that the one thing human beings have in common is our diversity.
I look forward to further interactions with all the present members of the I.M.S.O family and welcome all prospective members to join in the fun and conversation of multiculturalism.

Aziz Abdurazakov (Uzbekistan)

Aziz comes from Uzbekistan, he is a member of ASU tennis team. He came to Alcorn in Spring 2005.

Martina Garda (Argentina)

Martina is one of the most active IMSO members. Everybody remembers her input in the Multicultural Festival 2006, (oh those empanadas!!!). Her extra-curricular activities include playing tennis for the ASU team and participating in the Biology Club, she was even selected Ms. Biology Club 2006-2007 (see picture #2)

Margo McLeod (Canada)

Margo McLeod is a junior, accounting and business administration double-major from Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada.  She was the second president of the International Multicultural Student Organization during the 2004-2005 school year. She is a member of the Women's Div. I golf team at Alcorn. Also, she is the treasurer of Student's in Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.), and a volunteer at Cultural Crossroads, a community center in Port Gibson, MS.
Before coming to Alcorn, Margo graduated at the top of her Woodstock High School senior class. Since she has come to Alcorn, she has maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. Margo's future plans include attending graduate school to pursue an M.B.A, as well as working for a Fortune 500 company and traveling the world for work, golf and pleasure.
Contrary to popular belief, she is not a newfie (not that there is anything wrong with being one), but she is a very proud New Brunswicker for it's many world's largest things, it's hospitable people and it's beautiful scenery in all seasons.  And yes, New Brunswick is also known for its potatoes, lumber industry and seafood. Margo's most prized possession is her car, Bijou, and her favorite quote is, "If not me, who? If not now, when?"

Ms. Chien has always been a resident of California, and plans to return after she receives her undergraduate degree. Some of Ms. her hobbies include, reading, listening to a variety of music, watching movies, and hanging out with her friends.

Ms. Chien is proud to be an IMSO member and plans to have many more exiting memories and experiences of a lifetime.

Brian J. Gills  (Louisiana, USA)

I am a sophomore Music Education major, I am from Baton Rouge, LA. I am a member the ASU Concert Choir, Men’s Choral and the Stop for Poetry Club. My hobbies are playing sports, the guitar, and piano.

Before coming to Alcorn I was a Park Ranger on the Natchez Trace Parkway for five years doing Interpretation and Educational programs about the Park. I also am a wild land firefighter. I’ve have been fighting wild land fires for four years, traveling all over the United States.

I am proud of Louisiana’s culture: it is unique to the United States. The food and music is amazing. Some of our most popular foods are gumbo and crawfish. Jazz was also invented in Louisiana; one well known inventor of Jazz was Louis Armstrong. The dialect is close to a Haitian accent, French, Spanish, and African languages rolled into one.

Adrian D. Reddix (Mississippi, USA)

My name is Adrian Dion Reddix. I am a Sophomore, Political Science, Pre-Law Concentration major. I am from Biloxi, MS.  I am a Technical Consultant to the Alcorn State University Women’s Soccer Team.  Some of my hobbies are playing my harmonica, guitar, and saxophone. I am also addicted to music of all kinds from classical to meta-jazz.  Jamming with my friends for hours upon end, after studying of course, is another on of my pleasures. I went to high school at Biloxi High School where I participated in the band, various sports, quiz bowl team, mock trial, national honor society, and jazz band.

Participating in the IMSO has opened my eyes to new ways of thinking and new experiences. It has helped me to meet a lot of different people with different backgrounds and experiences. It also helps me to appreciate and embrace other cultures while sharing and educating others about my own.

Madhu Aditya (India / USA)

My name is Madhu Aditya.  I am a freshman majoring in Computer Networking.  I was born in Bangalore, India and moved to Lafayette, LA, when I was two.  I currently live in Vicksburg, MS.  I went to high school at Warren Central High.  In high school I was a member of the school’s NJROTC program, robotics team, honor society, as well as many other clubs.  My interests are video games, good food, and hanging out with my friends.  During my free time I like to read, go on the internet, or to hang out with my friends.  On campus I am a member of the NAIT organization as well as the International and Multicultural Student Organization.  I also work at the IT building.  I joined the multicultural organization in hopes of meeting new people and to learn of different cultures.
