Mr. Jason Cable

Biography:

Throughout his career in athletics, Jason Cable has displayed dynamic leadership, integrity, and efficiency. Cable graduated from the prestigious NCAA Leadership Institute in July 2014 which was a rigorous and intensive program for selected leaders in the area of athletics. He was also chosen and continues to serve on the SWAC Strategic Planning Committee and as chairperson for the SWAC Compliance Administrators Committee. Cable presented at the 2014 NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program Conference in San Diego, CA, the 2013 Summer Development Program Conference in Jackson, Miss., the 2013 Mississippi Advisors Meeting in Jackson, Miss., and the 2013 NCAA Convention in Dallas, TX regarding the $900,000 LRI Grant awarded to Jackson State University.

Cable earned his B.S. in political science (2003) and his M.S. in secondary education (2005) from Alcorn State University. Upon graduation, his experience as a student athlete aided him in his role as assistant men’s basketball coach and health/physical education instructor at Alcorn. Cable later transitioned from coaching into an administrative position where he served as the assistant to the athletic director at Alcorn. He continued his career in athletics as the associate athletic director for Compliance and CHAMPS Life Skills coordinator at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. There he oversaw all NCAA, CIAA, and institutional compliance issues and established the CHAMPS Life Skills Program on campus. Cable later took his talents to Jackson State University as assistant director of compliance, where he oversaw all aspects of athletic compliance.

Then he moved to the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as the assistant athletic director for compliance and game day operations at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA. His experience and expertise in the area of compliance across conferences lead to his opportunity to return to Mississippi as the associate athletic director for compliance at Jackson state University. At JSU, Cable oversaw athletic compliance, sports administration, game day operations, community involvement, and scheduling of contest. His impressive productivity and effectiveness in the area of athletic administration led to his promotion to senior associate athletic director/compliance oversight and paved the way for his return to his alma mater to serve as the assistant vice president for athletic compliance and academic services.

During his athletic career at Alcorn State University, Cable earned membership into the 1000 Points Club, and he was ranked #26 on the all-time scoring list with 1196 career points. His team won the 1998-1999, 1999-2000, and 2001-2002 SWAC Conference Championships and the 1998-1999 and 2001-2002 SWAC Tournament Championships.

Cable, a native of Huntsville, AL, is pursuing his Ph.D. in higher education administration at Jackson State University. He currently resides in Jackson, Miss.
