Special Admission

Applicants who graduated from an unaccredited undergraduate institution or who otherwise do not meet the standards for unconditional admission may be admitted on "Special" status.

    A. Qualifying status is awarded to students who have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.00 scale) at the undergraduate level but require the completion of prerequisites prior to admission to a degree program. The degree program specifies the prerequisites. Refer to the department’s section of the catalog. These prerequisites must be removed before enrollment in graduate courses of the same series.

    B. Conditional Status:

    1. Graduates of accredited colleges who have not taken the Graduate Record Examination or the Graduate Management Admission Test before admission. Applicants admitted to degree programs must take the GRE or GMAT during the first semester of enrollment in courses for graduate credit.

    2. Graduates of recognized four-year colleges not accredited when the bachelor’s degree was awarded. Such applicants must:

    a. Present a record of superior scholarship on the undergraduate level.

    b. Submit an official report of performance on the GRE or GMAT.

    3. Students who present a 2.25 to 2.49 cumulative grade point average must at the time of application submit GRE, GMAT or PRAXIS I & II scores which qualify them for admission. After admission, those students are required to take nine (9) semester hours of course work specified by the graduate advisor/department chairperson of the program’s major field. If a 3.00 cumulative grade point average is attained, the student is permitted to petition for a change of classification.
