Overview

Alcorn State University the oldest historically black land-grant institution in the United States, serving the people of Mississippi for over one hundred and thirty-five years. Located in Southwest Mississippi, Alcorn has built the reputation in outreach to the underserved through the Center for Rural Life and Economic Development and other initiatives. For fifteen years, Alcorn State University has partnered with USDA in the Entrepreneurial Outreach Initiative.

  • To assist the region in obtaining the job training, employment-related education, and business development (with an emphasis on entrepreneurship) that are needed to build and maintain strong local economies;

  • To provide assistance to severely distressed and underdeveloped areas that lack financial resources for improving basic public services;

  • To provide assistance to severely distressed and underdeveloped areas that lack financial resources for equipping industrial parks and related facilities. 

 

Goals

  1. Build and/or strengthen training partnerships among local , state and federal agencies, as well as business communities, in order to increase leadership skills in the entrepreneurial community of southwest Mississippi.
  2. Provide targeted youth with opportunities to explore new challenges that promote entrepreneurial training and innovative problem solving.

  3. Assist in developing twenty-five (25) citizens’ leadership knowledge base and applied leadership participation will be from the aspiring business population and five (5) additional leadership students will be existing entrepreneurs seeking to improve their leadership potential.
  4. To provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge based to succeed in business.
