Advertising for Open or Vacant Positions

The following procedure must be followed when posting a vacant position in your department in order to comply with university policy and Mississippi Department of Labor standards.

    1. Use the Position Description Template to prepare a position description. Click here for the Word version.
    2. Review the Frequently Asked Questions for help in completing the form correctly.
    3. When complete, save a copy for your reference and print a copy for review and to secure the appropriate approvals and Vice President’s signature.
    4. Bring the signed position description to the Office of Human Resources.
    5. Email the approved position description to Human Resources at jobs@alcorn.edu to be posted to the university website.
    6. List the vacant position with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission, or “Job Service”, in addition to any other advertisement medium used.
    7. Notify the Office of Human Resources when the position is filled in order to remove the posting.

The Mississippi River Research Center is immediately seeking an individual with keen understanding of surface and vadose zone hydrology. This will be a 2-year appointment. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists to classifying soil for solute transport as influenced by soil properties, land use, and landscape position. Experiments will be conducted in both complex and simple watersheds. Further, experiment will be conduct from lab-scale to plot-scale and to watershed-scale.
This individual must have experience in designing small-scale and large-scale runoff plots, the use of tension and ring infiltrometers, the use and interpretation of mathematical models, and report generation and publishing research results.
This position has a direct salary of $40,000 plus additional funds to cover institutional fringe benefit. A Ph.D. in soil science, soil physics, vadose zone hydrology and agricultural engineering, or related field is required. The position will be located on the Lorman campus of Alcorn State University, Mississippi.

ASU Department of Chemistry and Physics has an immediate opening for a nine-month full-time tenure-track position in Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level that will begin in August 2009. Responsibilities: teaching introductory and advanced level courses in chemistry, which may include some of the following: Physical Chemistry, General Physics, Optics, General Chemistry, Modern Physics, Thermodynamics, Environmental Chemistry, Nuclear and Radio Chemistry, etc. for both Chemistry and non majors, and an advanced level course in a specialty area.
