Blackboard Frequently Asked Questions for Students

How can I be sure that my assignment(s) has been submitted? 
For normal assignments, click the title of the assignment as if you were to submit an assignment. If you see the Upload Assignment page, then you haven't submitted the assignment and should take the time to resubmit on this page. If you continue to have trouble submitting an assignment, please call ASU Blackboard Support. For SafeAssigments, click the View/Complete link as if you were about to submit an assignment. You should see the View SafeAssignment page if you have properly submitted the assginment. If you still see the Upload SafeAssignment page, then take the time now to attempt submission again. If you still have trouble submitting your SafeAssignment, please call Blackboard Support.

What's the difference between a normal Assignment and a SafeAssignment? 
These two assignment types differ a few ways. The first and foremost way is that the SafeAssignment checks against other student papers (both here at Alcorn and other institutions that use the SafeAssign technology) and the Internet for possible instances of plagiarism. The other ways you tell them apart are visual. The images below show the difference between the icons you see next to the Assignment and SafeAssignment. Additionally, you must click the title of a normal Assignment to upload your submission. For a SafeAssignment, there is a View/Complete link below your the instructions for that particular assignment.

My instructor told us that there was an assignment posted, but I don't see it. What do I do? 
If you can't see an assignemnt that the instructor have assigned to you, please call Blackboard Support to insure that the assignment has been properly set for display to students.

When I click the link to open my course, I only see the Announcements (or some other) area. Where's the rest of my class stuff? 
 One of two things happened here. One possibility is that you have clicked the on the announcement in the Recent Announcments area of the Welcome Page. You should click on the My Institituion tab in the upper left corner of the screen to go back to the My Institution page and access your course by clicking the name of the course in the My Courses box on the right side of the screen. The other possiblity is that you have accidentally clicked the Show/Hide Course Menu Tab during a previous session within your Blackboard course. Just click the tiny, silver tab on the far left side of the page to show your course menu.

Why can't I access Blackboard from my cell phone? 
Though Blackboard Mobile Learn app (application) is currently available for purchase for both iOS and Android devices (an annual subscription fee of $2.99 and a permanent purchase of $5.99), The University's Office of Academic Technologies is currently testing the Blackboard Mobile Learn app to insure that the application will properly work with the University Blackboard server before recommending users to purchase the application. Though nothing prevents any student from accessing Blackboard via his or her own mobile device (cell phone, tablet, etc.), please know that any access to Blackboard via mobile devices before the University officially recommends the app will be unsupported. This decision is part of Alcorn State’s continuing effort to make certain that all students have an optimal learning experience at the University. Upon completion of testing, an email announcing our official recommendation will be sent out to all University students.
