Alcorn President keynotes Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities conference, Elected to Board of Directors

Lorman, Miss. (November 15, 2013) – Alcorn State University’s 18th President M. Christopher Brown II keynoted the Council of Presidents Luncheon at the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) annual conference held November 10-12, 2013, in Washington, D.C. that was attended by more than 1,400 participants. Dr. Brown spoke on “The Limits of Affirmative Action in Higher Education: Advancing Access and Equity on Campus” and provided insights on protecting campus diversity while ensuring access for all potential students.

President Brown was also elected to the APLU Board of Directors during the annual business meeting of the conference and awarded the organization’s Commission on Access, Diversity and Excellence Distinguished Service Award for his contribution to increasing diversity and access in the higher education community.

While receiving the award, President Brown acknowledged the importance of APLU’s work as the nation’s oldest higher education association and commended the Alcorn community for its continued impact and dedication to educational access, inclusion and equality.

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) is a research, policy, and advocacy organization representing 219 public research universities, land-grant institutions, state university systems, and related organizations.
