Alcorn Lady Braves participate in Warhawk Classic Fall Tennis Tournament

Recently, the Lady Braves travelled to the University of Louisiana, Monroe (ULM) to participate in the Warhawk Classic Fall Tennis Tournament.

They played well in the first round but only came out with one win by freshman Chan Rutherford over Christine Howley of Arkansas State University by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Even though Chan lost a tough match in the second round, she played a consolation match against Lisa Peters of Northwestern State University and won by a 6-1, 6-3 margin. Chan also teamed with another ASU Tennis Team member Daria Rud to win the second flight doubles competition.

"These are all very strong out-of-conference matches and the Lady Braves played very well in these opening rounds,” says Tony Dodgen, ASU head tennis coach. “Even though we had some minor injuries and a couple of girls with bad colds, I was glad to see the Lady Braves compete in such a determined fashion. The freshmen trio of Merilin Tipp, Kersten Vanem, and Chan Rutherford are really putting the team in a new zone and all the Lady Braves are looking forward to SWAC Conference play in the spring".

To end the fall season, the Braves and Lady Braves travelled to the University of West Florida October 21-23, to compete in the UWF Fall Tennis Invitational in Pensacola, Florida.
