Braves destiny in their hands

The Alcorn State Braves can make it to the SWAC championship game this season, but to do so they must beat the Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Jackson State Tigers. The Braves, 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the SWAC, play Prairie View A&M this Saturday and Jackson State on November 20th in the Capital City Classic. Anything less than wins over both will not be enough, unless Southern University upsets Alabama State on tomorrow.

The Braves own a 38-10 series record against the Panthers, dating back to 1961. Prairie View won the initial contest 37-7 and has won the last three games in a row, winning last year’s game 34-14.

However, the Braves dominated Prairie View from 1977-1999, going 22-0 in that time span. Over the past ten seasons - dating back to 2000 - Alcorn has won six of the games played against Prairie View, while the Panthers have only won four.

The battle this weekend is the most important one played in the past ten seasons. It will either keep the Braves in the hunt for the championship game in December in Birmingham, Alabama or eliminate them altogether.

Game time is set for Saturday, November 12, 2:00PM in Prairie View, Texas.
