As a part of Alcorn State University’s continuing effort to provide its students, faculty and staff with global experiences, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ASU and Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) was recently developed. The MOU was signed by ASU President M. Christopher Brown II and NIAS President Placid C. Njoku on January 25, 2011.
“The MOU encompasses collaborative research between NIAS and the ASU Swine Development Center,” said Dr. Dovi Alipoe, interim chair, Department of Agriculture and director of Global Programs. “Dr. Michael Ezekwe, Swine Development Center director, will be the primary liaison for this effort.”
“We look forward to fulfilling this MOU between our two distinguished institutions,” stated Dr. Njoku. “As a research institute, we have responsibilities to expand scientific engagement in animal science research,” added NIAS Registrar Dr. G.O. Oyediji. “We would like to partner with Alcorn State University in its effort to help developing countries, such as Nigeria, and provide ASU scientists opportunities for international collaboration.”
NIAS is a professional and regulatory body for animal scientists designed to help members provide effective leadership through research, extension, teaching and service for the dynamic and rapidly changing livestock and meat industries. (http://nias.gov.ng/about_us.html)
