Director of ASU Child Development Laboratory Center Brown-Holmes selected to present at conference
LaTasha Brown-Holmes, director of the ASU Child Development Laboratory Center, Human Sciences Department, was among many candidates that submitted proposals to present at the 2011 Mississippi Early Childhood Alliance Conference, February 12, 2011, on the campus of Jackson State University.
“I am honored to be selected to participate in this important conference,” stated Brown-Holmes. “The purpose of this conference is to provide professional development for childcare professionals that will enhance their instruction through the introduction and practice of skills, strategies and ideas necessary to prepare children ages birth to five for kindergarten; enhance reading readiness instruction through the use of literacy-based practices and information and technology; and allow for networking with college and university faculty for the purpose of coordinating professional development and service-learning opportunities.”
Brown-Holmes proposal “Mining the Academic Treasures of Children Books” demonstrates how children literature can be used to expand on academic concepts. During this session, participants will explore the various opportunities and academic concepts presented in children’s literature and identify activities that support those concepts.
