Vicksburg Medical Foundation Makes Gift to Alcorn State University to Provide Student Scholarships
Vicksburg Medical Foundation Chairman Howell N. Gage presented M. Christopher Brown II, the 18th President of Alcorn State University with a check for $50,000 to support student scholarships on Tuesday, March 15th. “The Vicksburg Medical Foundation believes in caring for others and supporting today’s health care students,” says Chairman Gage. “Giving to Alcorn State University allows nursing and pre-medical students to devote themselves completely to school and service.”
Stephen L. McDaniel, executive director of the ASU Foundation presented a report highlighting the Vicksburg Medical Foundation’s support has yielded over half million dollars in scholarships since 2001. Gage also received presentations from Dr. Linda Godley, dean of the School of Nursing and Dr. Thomas Sturgis, director of the Pre-Professional and Honors Curriculum Programs, concerning opportunities at Alcorn for students pursuing careers in the medical industry.
“The Vicksburg Medical Foundation philanthropy provides tremendous opportunities for many Alcorn students, including research, education and practice,” explains President Brown. “As new health care challenges and opportunities continue to emerge, we are thankful for this gift, which extends well beyond Alcorn State University to address health care needs in Mississippi and our global economy.”
