A commitment to excellence in athletics, Alcorn President announces overhaul
In October, Alcorn President M. Christopher Brown II received from Athletics its 10 year NCAA Division I Athletics Certification Self-Study and confirmed accuracy of content.
“Alcorn is committed to providing our student-athletes the best academic and athletic opportunities,” says a solemn President Brown. “The recent happenings at my alma mater, Penn State, remind us all of our responsibility to our students.”
Changes in athletics are necessary, added Brown. “A review of finances and operations are critical to the success of the program.”
In a memo dated November 11, President Brown is requesting all athletic personnel attend a mandatory meeting in his office on Monday, November 14, at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will address the following:
1. NCAA Division I Athletics Certification Self-Study
2. Changes in Academic Progress Rate (APR)
3. Personnel reductions and terminations
4. A review of the Code of Conduct
5. Search for permanent athletic director
Immediately following the meeting at 2:30 p.m., President Brown will hold a press conference to announce strategic initiatives that will reaffirm Alcorn’s commitment to excellence in athletics.
