Important Phishing Alert
Alcorn State University
Attention Students, Faculty and Staff: A number of users report receiving the below email messages about "upgrading Email Security".
THIS MESSAGE IS A HOAX!!! DO NOT RESPOND!!! CITS WILL NEVER ASK YOU YOUR PASSWORD.
Please verify the source of all communications before replying. Any communication related to accounts will come from a member of the CITS security team, Desmond Stewart or lists.alcorn.edu on behalf of a member of the security team.
It is University Policy that all official communication is conducted using the University Email System. Accordingly, messages from gmail.com, live.com, llu.edu (like the one below - see FROM in the original message) or any email domain other than alcorn.edu that is purported to be from a member of the University community is NOT official University business.
If you have already replied to that message, Please contact CITS at x6182 immediately or email Desmond Stewart at firstname.lastname@example.org

The email is as follows:
"From: Steudel, Gerhard (LLU) [email@example.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 01, 2009 6:35 PM Subject: Mailbox Upgrade Attn: Faculty/Staff/Students, This message is from our Helpdesk Team to all webmail account owners.We noticed that your webmail account has been compromised by spammers. It seems they have gained access into our database and have been using it for illegal internet activities.The center is currently performing maintenance and upgrading its database. We intend upgrading our Email Security Server for better online services.To re-validate your mailbox and upgrade your account, please click below (http://zenith.metrohosting.info/feedback/feedback.html) In order to ensure you do not experience service interruptions, please upgrade your account to prevent it from being deactivated from our database. Thank you for using our online services. Gerhard Steudel For Helpdesk Team"
