Understanding You Transcript
Official transcripts bear the signature of the Registrar and the embossed seal of the University. The University will not certify as to the accuracy of any statements of credit including Photographs of Official transcripts that have not been prepared by and issued directly from the Office of the Registrar.
External transcripts are issued only at the request of the student. No transcript will be issued to or for a student who is indebted to the University until such indebtedness has been paid in full.
Transcripts which have been presented for admission or evaluation of credits, have become a part of the students record and are not reissued or copied for distribution. Transcripts from other institutions, if needed, must be obtained directly from that institution.

Alcorn State University is fully accredited and is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Alcorn's Teacher Education Program is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

. The Division of Nursing is accredited by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning. Graduates of Alcorn State University's Division of Nursing are eligible to write the N-CLEX-RN Examination to become registered Nurses. The Associate of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs are accredited by the League for Nursing.
In the Department of Human Sciences, the Institutional Management and Food and Nutrition programs are approved by the American Dietetic Association under Plan IV.
Change Of College Name
Alcorn Agricultural & Mechanical College was established May 13, 1871, as Alcorn University of Mississippi on the site of Oakland College. On March 15. 1974, the name Alcorn A & M College was changed to Alcorn State University.
Change from 3.00 pt. to 4.00 pt. System
Effective June 1, 1965, the University changed from a 3-point system to the present 4-point system.
Repeating Courses
A student may repeat a course in order to earn a higher grade, thereby earning additional quality points; however the higher letter grade stands as the official grade. Both grades will appear on a student's transcript and all hours attempted and total points will be used in calculating the overall grade point average.
xxxxxx - these symbols indicate that a course has been repeated. Transcripts generated in the BANNER system will show “E”, “I” or “A” in the right margin of each semester to indicate that a course has been repeated.

Grading System
Credits are expressed in terms of semester hours with alphabetical grades and numerical grade point to indicate the quality of the work. These grades cover the work of the entire semester and are based upon the average of daily work, final examinations and other written work. Characterization of letter grades by plus and minus signs is not authorized.

I - Incomplete - Unfinished work
WP - Withdrawal while passing
WF - Withdrawal while failing
L - Incomplete - Unfinished work in a developmental course (RE 100, MA 100, EN 100) - student must continue in course.
P - Pass - No quality points, however, student is given credit for hours.
Audit - Permission to sit in on course for a $25.00 fee. No credit is earned or given.
