THE ALCORN COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICES

The Alcorn Agriculture Extension Service offers the knowledge resources of the land-grant university system to educate Mississippians for self-improvement, individual’s action and community problem-solving. It is a State wide educational agency and in partnership with Mississippi State. The Extension Service is linked in a unique partnership with the nationwide Cooperative Extension System and Mississippi county governments. Alcorn Extension serves 28 counties with education designed to fit the needs of local residents. County Extension agents work as community educators and facilitators to provide these programs. Extension specialists located at Alcorn State University and Off Campus Research and Demonstration Centers providing expertise and materials to support local educational programs. The Extension Agenda covers four base program areas: Agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, 4-H and Youth Development, and community development. On the agenda are four goals to be achieved through eleven educational initiatives. 
They are Health and Safety for Mississippians, Resiliency and Well-Being of children, Youth and Families, Natural Resources, Environmental and Land Stewardship, Waste Management, Environmental Public Issues Education, Water Conservation and Quality, Economic Development/Building, Community Capacity, Competitiveness and Sustainability for Mississippi Agriculture, Valued Products, Processing and Marketing for Mississippi Agriculture, Preparing Youth for the Future, Building Leadership. 

The Extension Staff are striving to meet the needs of the county in all listed areas. Extension programs serves peoples of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin.
